Y3K’s Xvision HD CCTV solution helps Mazda chain put the brakes on mindless car vandalism

TW White & Sons is a traditional family-run business established in 1964 as a new and used car dealer employing over 120 staff at seven locations in the South East. After a spate of cars were vandalised at their Orpington dealership, they turned to national installer Pure Vision CCTV to help them increase the security on their forecourt and find the perpetrator.

In a bid to stop any further damage to their cars, TW White & Sons employed the expertise of Pure Vision CCTV to install Y3K’s latest range of Xvision HD-SDI cameras. The challenge for the installer was twofold: to achieve high-resolution images both day and night that could be used as evidence whilst covering the wide expanse of the forecourt area, and to deliver all of this on a tight budget.

This new range of Xvision HD-SDI cameras and recorders deliver all the benefits of full HD (1080p) over co-axial cabling – something that until now has been synonymous with IP network video systems. Equipped with a high-quality wide-angle megapixel lens that provides good coverage in all situations, the cameras proved to be the perfect choice for the client’s forecourt.

Cost-effective solution

TW White decided not to install IP cameras due to higher install cost and bandwidth limitations on the company network, so this simple-to-install technology was chosen as a cost-effective alternative. The fact that installers do not need specialist knowledge of networking, such as the servers, hubs, switches and Ethernet cabling normally required when installing an IP-based system, means they can now offer customers all the benefits of HD megapixel cameras by simply using Y3K’s range of Xvision CCTV cameras and recorders.

The Xvision Professional XHC1080B HD-SDI Bullet Camera offers full HD 1080p resolution images, with up to 25m IR night vision. This is equal to 7 times the resolution of standard definition CCTV systems. "There has never been a better time to switch to HD CCTV if you compare the price of high-end CCTV systems with Xvision’s HD-SDI range,” said Paul Singh, Managing Director of Y3K.

The Monday after the cameras were installed more cars were vandalised. After interrogating the footage from the DVR’s easy to use image retrieval settings, staff soon discovered that the person responsible was in fact a former employee. Malik went on to say, "We suspect in all probability that the person caught was also behind the other cars that were damaged, although we have no CCTV evidence to substantiate this.”

Unexpected additional benefits

Malik commented further that, "The cameras have not only stopped me having to continually repaint and repair damaged cars, but they have also added other business efficiencies I had never associated with having a camera system: both staff punctuality and the performance of my sales team seems to have improved as a result of being able to access the cameras remotely over a network connection when I’m out of the office.”
